Ryan McGinley is a young -less than 30 I think- photographer from NY. I discovered his "I know where the summer goes" series last year. I think his photography is mainly about freedom; I LOVE his use of color and his compositions.
Here is a very, very interesting article about him from the NY Times. It says a lot about ambition, rigor, and how he managed to put his work "out there" in the world.

I'm really drawn to the ones of his with movement and body shape. There are a few on his site where a body is falling or jumping, and it takes on this interesting weight and shape, with nothing behind and around but a wash of color. They're beautiful, like watercolors, and I'd want to see them very large. There's one where the figure is so far away, just a tiny little body and everything is yellow. It makes me feel big and small at the same time!
yes I know what picture you're talking about... I SO want to have a HUGE print of one of these in my living room, they're almost abstract paintings....
These feel very natural and everyone looks to be enjoying themselves. They make me smile and I think if i were to see another of his pieces standing alone I could trace it to him. He certainly has his own style. The last photo of the bodies in the tree is just amazing to me. Like a dream.
Ryan has captured a sense of peace in his images. Some are very dreamlike. They are very painterly.
