25mp full frame Sony A900 just announced at a price point of 3K. likely will not, nor intended to compete with the Canon 1Ds Mk3, but will be interesting to see how it compares.
a sign of things to come surely, and the specs of the upcoming Canon 5D mk2 look promising as well.
dynamic range/performance aside, with the emphasis on paperless media and digital convergence, is more actually . . . more. for instance as was the case with computers, the marketing emphasis was once on how much speed/horsepower the chip generated, and less so on ease of use and intuitive lifestyle integration. thankfully that has changed, but camera manufacturers are the slowest on the planet in redefining the paradigm of (D)SLR improvements. For instance, and this is one of many, I would gladly trade MP for a pro-level flip up waist level screen like they have on their prosumer line, but no. Can you imagine a camera without inherent brand quirks? neither can they apparently.

wow, a sony ?! Ok, why not...
first of all I can't understand how they could design such an ugly camera ... but I guess this does not matter (?!!!). I so agree about this MP race, for images that are going to end up (mostly) on the web or as tiny prints in magazines, who needs 25 MP ??!!... yes a decent waist level screen would be so much more useful ... personally at this point I am just looking for a (decent) camera that fits well in my hand, and is light enough for me to shoot for 2 hours in a raw ...
I agree with you Agathe. What a monstrosity. How about a full frame sensor in a rangefinder body. So many of these "higher end" dslr's seem to be following the train of thought that bigger is better. If I remember correctly Zeiss is designing the lenses for sony....
It's so bulky as are most digital cameras these days. I just can't imagine having any more weight in my hand than I already do with the d70 or the n90. The full frame part and the increase of speed are a positive aspect to look forward to.
